Ashton CC 1XI 99/2 v 97ao Wythenshawe 1XI

Surprisingly getting to start on time with the poor forecast, somehow managed to get on bang on start time, Losing the toss in bowling friendly conditions Wythenshawe chose to bat first, Pro Vish taking a wicket 3rd ball of the game, this set the tone as opening Pair Vish & Tom ran through them, at 30-6 their number 5 batsman stuck in for them and hit some nice boundaries for his 46*, other than that nobody troubled the scorers for Wythenshawe and our opening pair, along with a great run out from Aaron Hurd were all that was required cleaning them up for 97.

In response, just like the bowling the damage was done by the opening pair, Pro Vish 42 (20) who got a stinking LBW decision, and Richard Taylor 44 (35) who fell just shy of his 50 made easy work of the chase, Ramis Mustafa 10* his 2 boundaries from the 2 balls he faced as we cruised to a 6 point win, on to Stretford away this coming Saturday.

Bowling Figures:

Vishva Chathuranga (pro) 10 over 5-51

Tom Rayson 9.4 overs 4-40

Ashton 4XI 157ao v Werneth 4XI 157ao

On another grey Sunday, with the clouds looming over Rayner lane, the men of Ashton's mighty fourth team assemble. Smiles on faces despite a tough run of losses.

A slightly delayed start didn’t affect the overs and having lost the toss and being put in to bat, the fine figures of Murphy Holt and the personification of cricket Jon Newall strolled to the crease. By far providing the most stable of 4th team opening partnerships thus far, a flurry of well worked cricket shots and powerful boundaries found us 35-0.

Then the curse of Ashton struck, and we suddenly found ourselves losing wickets fast. Alex Mayoh clung to his wicket like primed Jonathan Trott to provide a bit of stability until finally falling allowing the old guard to carry out the rear guard. Co captains on the day Lee Wallace 28 and Dick Taylor adding an impressive 78 partnership together with a mixture of solid defence and balanced aggression. Unfortunately, next man Michael Baines put his Gillet on and Wallace fell the next ball. Proving again that cricket superstitions should be strictly believed. Taylor continued to find the boundary with some Usain Bolt esque singles thrown in for good measure. Until finally falling for 75 to end the innings. Defending 158, post dominoes kindly provided by Mrs Chairman celebrating her baby shower, Dick Taylor and Lewis Pattinson opened with tight bowling until a few loose deliveries led to the run rate sneaking up, D Taylor continued for 10 overs straight through with an impressive 2-17-3-10 raising the pressure on the visiting side. Then having reached his limit at drinks was replaced by the Graeme Swann of Tameside, who despite taking a couple of overs to settle, consistently took wickets and kept it tight to restrict the visitors further. Jon Newall finishing on 5-37-2-9.5 including the final two wickets to seal a draw for the ever-improving 4th team. Special mention to Lewis Pattison for a back peddling over the shoulder catch for the final wicket and Connor Winfield who only ran away from one catch this week what a trooper.

Player of the match shared between Big Jonny and Dicky Taylor.

Unfortunately the 2XI game and the 3XI game fell victim of the rain, this coming weekend 2XI face Staleybridge 2XI at home this coming Saturday, the 1XI face Stretford away Saturday, both 3XI & 4XI have no game for the next 3 weekends.
